What about inclement weather?
The Virgin Islands is blessed with a very moderate climate most of the year. Inclement weather is not usually a factor. Island Roots does have a hard top which provides some shelter in case of rain. If the forecast does call for showers, bringing along a windbreaker or sweatshirt is a good idea. Severe weather will result in a cancellation, at the Captain’s discretion.
Is there cover from the sun and/or rain onboard?
Yes, Island Roots does provide modest cover from the sun and rain. Of course, Caribbean sun rays are strong , even on cloudy days, and all passengers are strongly advised to wear sunscreen and apply often. As for rain, a windbreaker or sweatshirt is recommended.
What if I get seasick?
As a two-hulled catamaran, Island Roots is remarkably stable and comfortable. However, as with all small watercraft, there is a possibility that individuals who are prone to seasickness, may become so. Don’t be shy. Tell us if you feel ill and we’ll gladly take a break until you’re feeling better.
Is there any opportunity to buy souvenirs?
Will I have to exchange currency to make purchases in the BVI?
Depending on the trip’s itinerary, there are various options for purchasing souvenirs in the British Virgin Islands. If that’s a top priority, just let us know. Aragorn’s Studio at Trellis Bay is one option, offering ceramics, baskets, paintings and a host of other handicrafts. Island bars such as Foxy’s and the Soggy Dollar Bar have a devoted following around the globe, and their t-shirts will identify you as part of the club!
I have special dietary needs. Will I have trouble finding lunch on the BVI Escape tour?
The restaurants that are frequented by Island Roots offer mostly American-style fare and Caribbean specialties, including fresh seafood, salads and sandwiches.
What is the boat’s alcohol policy?
The legal drinking age in the USVI and BVI is 18. Legal drinking on Island Roots and while ashore is permitted.
Can we charter the boat as a water taxi only?
Yes. Inquire for pricing and availability. We’ll do our best to get you where you need to go.
Do I have to know how to swim to snorkel?
Yes. Please let the Captain know if you don’t feel you are a strong swimmer. Lifejackets may be worn while snorkeling for your added assurance.
Can I enter the BVI with just a passport card?
If traveling by sea, U.S. citizens can use a passport or passport card to enter the BVI. Captain John will handle all required Customs paperwork.
Does my infant really need a passport to visit the BVI?
Yes.
